NEWMOA partnered with the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) in FY 2019 to develop a project to educate residents in Onondaga County, NY (Syracuse and surrounding communities) about problems with wasting food and the opportunities to reduce and divert food waste to compost. NEWMOA and OCRRA are reaching out to low-income residents, recent immigrants, and communities that speak English as a second language by engaging with community groups that represent and involve them. The partners are developing outreach and education tools and strategies, including handouts, short online videos, and social media campaigns as well as participating in and holding community events to promote these resources and share their message.
