Waste Site Cleanup Projects Emerging Contaminant – PFAS

PFOA and PFOS are perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, respectively and belong to the broader class of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals have been widely used in many industries and are in many consumer products, including to make carpet and fabric stain-protection and waterproofing, and in food packaging. In addition, PFAS are key components in many of the aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF) used for firefighting. States in the northeast have sites where drinking water is impacted. In response, NEWMOA has undertaken several activities, including:

NEWMOA expects to organize other webinars and meetings on PFAS. Information about all past and future NEWMOA Waste Site Cleanup Program events can be found on the Events page.
