Ernest showed his boss that the desk top
spray booth was close to emitting 1,000 pounds/year of VOCs, the
threshold. Remember that Ernest was concerned about two paint lines …one
that painted the desk tops and one for the paint drawers? Well,
Ernest got curious. He followed the same steps in EMFACT to track
VOCs for the desk drawers. He could not believe the results. Turns
out, one paint spray booth is very efficient, while the other is
incredibly inefficient. For example, one used 6 cans of paint
to coat 100 sq. ft. and the other used 3 cans to coat 100 sq. ft.
Further investigation revealed that the nozzles in the inefficient
paint booth were much older. Ernest used the “What
If” scenario feature in EMFACT to prove that new
nozzles would help the company to emit less than 1,000 pounds/year
from both of the paint spray booths and save money.
