Ernest could cover more pieces of equipment
(process steps) and group them as production units. He could track
how many desks ACME produces, the total non-product output (i.e.,
air emissions, water discharges, hazardous waste shipped) from
all chemical inputs. This would enable him to calculate the total
environmental impact related to production of each desk.
